We started selling decaf because Jenni (our founder) developed a caffeine sensitivity shortly after we started Modest Coffee. Until that point we found that most decaf on the market tasted burnt or chemically treated. Basically, we don’t think that decaf coffee subscriptions should be gross! So Jenni challenged Marcus (our other founder) to find a way to roast decaf that she could enjoy. She was deeply involved in the roasting process and worked to create a new technique for roasting decaf that makes it taste like actual coffee. For us, decaf isn’t an afterthought it makes up about half of what we drink at home. So, we created a decaf coffee subscription for other people who want to enjoy the flavor and aroma of “regular” coffee without the burnt, bitter aftertaste so common in decaf. We work with small farms and all of our decaf is water processed. So that means you get full flavor and no harsh chemicals!
