The Rob Salamida Company has been bottling their Original State Fair Spiedie Sauce since 1975. Owner Rob Salamida began the business when he was 16 years old, selling spiedies (spee-dees) in front of a local tavern. When he was 19, he opened his own food concession at the New York State Fair. He quickly saw the popularity of spiedies and started bottling his trademark marinade in his parents basement.
The production method today is the same; ingredients are bottled in separate stages to ensure the exact amount is the same in each bottle. The assurance of quality over high speed production methods has been the touchstone of Original State Fair Spiedie Sauce. It is still a hometown sauce with a homemade flavor that has sold over 2 million bottles.
