Chester Beach was a farmboy mechanic/genius type so typical of Americans during the industrial development of the early 1900s. L. H. Hamilton was a financier and business man. These two men combined their talents to establish the Hamilton Beach Manufacturing company in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1911, they developed the Hamilton Beach drink mixer. Wisconsin was then and is today a prime dairy state. Racine, Wisconsin was the home of the Horlick Malted Milk Company, and at Horlicks urging, Chester Beach developed an electric drink mixer to satisfy the demand for the delicious tasting body-building properties of the malted milk shake. Malted milk was frequently prescribed by physicians and sold by druggists to individuals who desired a special food product to help build strength. For this reason, the Hamilton Beach drink mixer found its way into the soda fountains of drug stores throughout the United States. It became as much a tradition as hot dogs, apple pie, or baseball. Mr. Beach and Mr. Hamilton also pioneered and successfully marketed several other products under the Hamilton Beach name. They included hair dryers, floor polishers, electric fans, buffers, and most importantly, the original cake mixer which was the forerunner of todays popular Hamilton Beach stand mixer. During the 1930s Hamilton Beach developed and perfected a multiple spindle drink mixer to respond to increased demand for the ever popular milk shake. Many of the single and multiple spindle machines made in these early years continue to be of service today, making milk shakes the old-fashioned way. Hamilton Beach is still producing these popular machines, building in the quality and dependability that has become a company tradition. Since the early 1900s, Hamilton Beach has continued to introduce new and innovative products to the marketplace. The blender was one such introduction, and it not only satisfied home needs of the American consumer, but contributed greatly to the current drinks served in bars, cocktail lounges, and resorts throughout the world. In 1996, Hamilton Beach celebrated 85 years of quality, service, and dependability. Nothing epitomizes this quality more elegantly than the Hamilton Beach drink mixer.
