The superb 2001 harvest enabled Sutter Home winemakers to produce one of the winerys finest Chardonnays to date. Sutter Homes 2001 California Chardonnay offers a lovely aroma of fresh pear, peach, apple, and lemon fruit enhanced by a rich, creamy tone imparted by partial malolactic fermentation and wood aging. The wines smooth, round texture, and rich, creamy, peach and apple flavors persist into a long, flavorful aftertaste. This delicious, beautifully balanced Chardonnay makes an ideal match for any seafood or poultry dish, as well as for veal or pork chops, cream sauce pastas, and both mild and flavorful cheeses.Sutter Home Merlot is produced from grapes grown throughout Californias premier coastal and inland valley regions, including Sutter Home vineyards in the Lodi region. Sutter Homes 2001 Merlot exhibits a fresh black cherry aroma, with hints of tobacco and herbal spice. Medium-bodied, with a smooth texture and moderate tannins, it boasts attractive, smoky black cherry and spice flavors, excellent structure, and a long, rich finish. This fine-value Merlot makes an excellent accompaniment to a wide range of foods, especially chicken, beef, lamb, game, and tomato-based pastas. Sutter Home White Zinfandel is produced from red Zinfandel grapes grown in the Upper Sacramento and Northern San Joaquin valleys. The grapes for this bottling were harvested early in the growing season (early to mid-August) at low sugars (18-19 degrees Brix) and relatively high acids to maximize the freshness typical of this wine.
